Five Oaks 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot   Five Oaks 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot
The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot is an 82% Cabernet, 18% Merlot blend that was bottled at the end of January 2003. The wine displays a medium red colour with purple hues. It has rich ripe blackcurrant, black cherry nose with hints of savoury, minty characters that also come through on the palate. The berry fruit flavours are nicely complimented by ripe tannins and well-integrated French oak, giving the wine a smooth, medium bodied mouth feel. This is a wine that had benefited from 5 years of careful cellaring, is drinking beautifully now and should be at its best until 2010.

Storm Ridge 2003 Yarra Valley Cabernet Merlot   Storm Ridge 2003 Yarra Valley Cabernet Merlot
This wine is all from Yarra Valley fruit. The fermentation took place in open fermenters and fruit was added over a period of three days to extend the ferment with the cap being plunged three times a day. The wine was then aged in a combination of new and older French and American Oak for a period of 16 months. The Wine Was bottled in October 2003. The combination of Cabernet and Merlot gives the wine great complexity. The merlot is quite dominate at the moment and gives attractive plummy flavours in the middle palate. Whilst this wine shows some cooler climate cabernet characters the main focus of this wine is on rich blackberry flavours with firm tannins on the finish. The nose of this wine exhibits blackberries and capsicums, the palate is stewed plum, blackberries and a hint of cedar oak- cigar box flavours. Cellar 2-5 years
